About Czech School Stockholm & Nordic Community

„Bridge between the cultures.“

We are Eva, Magdaléna, and Petra – three passionate women brought together by our love for the Czech language, meaningful education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Together, we founded the Czech School in Stockholm to create a playful, kind, and inspiring space for children with Czech roots. Our mission is to spark joy in learning Czech, strengthen children’s connection to Czech culture, and build a community where everyone feels welcome.

We continue the legacy of the Čeština hrou course, which began in 2021 at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm.

In addition to teaching Czech language and culture through the Czech School in Stockholm, we also work under the umbrella of the Nordic Community. This initiative focuses on publishing books for children and adults, organizing cultural and community events, and creating spaces for Czech families living across the Nordic countries to connect.

Our goal is to foster Czech-Nordic cultural connections and create meaningful opportunities to preserve language and identity.
We believe that a love for learning begins with the joy of discovering language, culture, and one’s own roots. That’s why we aim not only to nurture a positive relationship with Czech language and heritage, but also to co-create a community where everyone feels accepted and valued.

At the same time, we guide children toward a deeper understanding of the Central European context and a sense of belonging to a shared European future.

EVA MARTINICOVÁ, LL.M.

MAGDALÉNA WHITEMAN, Mgr. et MgA.

I have been working in an international environment for over 17 years. I hold a degree in law and have experience in Czech public administration, European institutions (including the European Commission), and international corporate settings (such as Google and Amazon). Throughout my career, I have been involved in negotiating and drafting legislation at both the national level (particularly in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Poland) and the European level (within the EU legislative process). My focus has been on digital technology law, especially in areas such as cybersecurity, the data economy, e-commerce, and telecommunications.

I have also been engaged in educational projects in the field of digital skills. I believe that learning and education are continuous, everyday processes, and that the primary mission of educational institutions should be to foster creativity and innovative thinking. I see enormous potential in new technologies—not only in education but across all areas of life. Technology can significantly enhance access to and processing of information, but it is ultimately the responsibility of each individual to understand the information, verify its source, and be aware of its limitations and appropriate use.

Foreign language skills play a crucial role in this context—the more, the better. Although it may seem that in the age of technology, online translators, and large language models, foreign languages are becoming obsolete, they are paradoxically even more valuable. When it comes to drafting legislation, understanding European history and culture, or interpreting written texts, every additional language is a competitive advantage for the future.

I am a creative and passionate Czech language teacher with a love for music and education. I have been teaching Czech as a foreign language since 2019. As a third-generation teacher in my family, I see teaching as my calling – I value a personal approach, meaningful learning, and a playful, human atmosphere.

Thanks to my background in music and experience in the arts, I bring creativity and joy into my lessons. I believe that language is best learned when we truly experience it – through stories, emotions, and authentic interaction.

My greatest joy is seeing students make progress and enjoy the learning process. With study and work experience abroad (Finland, USA), I am open to diverse teaching approaches and constantly explore new ways to share and teach the Czech language. In my free time, I enjoy yoga, walking in the nature or reading.

PETRA LORENTZON STAŇKOVÁ, Mgr. et MgA., B.B.A.

I have experience with teaching and educational projects in several European countries. Working in an international environment enriches me, and I enjoy collaborating with people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In my professional life, I combine structure with creativity, and I deeply care about building open and respectful relationships.

I am a graduate of Lynn University (USA) and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Journalism at Charles University in Prague. I earned my degree in Art History and my teaching qualifications (including methodology for teaching Czech) at Stockholm University. Currently, I work in Sweden at the Ministry of Education (Språkcentrum/SPC Stockholm), where I focus on educational research, multilingualism, and the integration of newly arrived students. I live and work between Prague and Stockholm.

In my free time, I enjoy art and sport.
